Why & how does our hair get thinner?

There can be several reasons for hair thinning, with the most common being genetic predisposition, stress, hormonal changes, poor nutrition, and inadequate hair care habits. It is worth examining these causes in more detail:

Genes

Hair thinning is often hereditary. If many people in your family struggle with hair loss or thinning hair, you are more likely to encounter this issue as well, making it clear that strengthening fine hair is necessary for you.

Stress

Long-term stress can negatively affect both your physical and mental health, including your hair. Stress can cause hormonal imbalances, leading to disruptions in the hair growth cycle and hair loss.

Hormonal changes

Changes in hormonal balance, such as during pregnancy, menopause, or thyroid issues, can affect the thickness and growth of your hair. Hormones directly influence the hair growth cycle, so fluctuations in these levels can lead to thinning hair.

Poor nutrition

A deficiency of vitamins and minerals essential for healthy hair can also lead to hair thinning. Hair needs elements like iron, zinc, biotin, as well as vitamins A, C, and E. If your diet doesn't provide enough nutrients, it can affect the condition of your hair, as these trace elements are necessary for strengthening the hair follicles.

Hair care routines

Washing your hair too frequently, rough styling, the use of chemicals (such as hair dyes and perms), and heat treatments (like blow dryers and curling irons) can all damage the hair's structure, leading to thinning. Improper hair care can weaken hair strands and cause split ends.

6 steps to strenghten your hair:

Yes, even in hair care. Use a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for fine hair. Avoid sulfates, as they can dry out your hair.

Pamper your hair once a week with a hair mask or oil. I love argan oil because it nourishes my hair wonderfully and smells great too. Strengthening the hair follicle can also be aided by it, and a strong hair follicle means stronger hair!

Try to use as little heat as possible when styling your hair. I know it's sometimes necessary, but at least use a heat protectant!

I never would have believed that diet has such a significant impact on my hair. Vitamins and proteins work wonders when the goal is to strengthen thinning hair, so bring on the fruits, vegetables, and fish!

I know it's easier said than done, but stress really has a terrible effect on our hair. Try to relax, whether it's through yoga, meditation, or just reading a good book in the bathtub.

Okay, this doesn't mean you should show up with a pixie cut tomorrow, but regular haircuts help get rid of split ends, making your hair stronger and healthier.

How can my hair get stronger?

All in all…

Strengthening weak, tired, and thinning hair is a complex process that involves proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, good hair care habits, and targeted treatments. Remember that the condition of your hair reflects your overall health, so pay attention to your body’s signals and take care of it inside and out.
